Landscape evidence for Open Field agriculture The course aims to introduce the origins and developments of the open field systems of England from the earliest times up to the time of the enclosures of the 18th and 19th centuries. The course will provide an historical and archaeological view of the present evidence for the operation of the open fields and how they were managed and controlled by farmers.
