The MSt (flexible) in Healthcare Data: Informatics, Innovation and Commercialization is only open to those who have successfully completed and passed the Postgraduate Diploma (flexible) Healthcare Data: Informatics, Innovation and Commercialization at Cambridge.

This is a 10 month, part-time Master’s-level course resulting in 60 FHEQ Level-7 credits and the University of Cambridge Masters award.

Cambridge is a world leading centre for innovation in electronic patient and clinical trial data. This is underpinned by an extensive and vibrant community of clinicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, and commercial and public sector organisations. There is a recognised shortage of the appropriate technical and practical skills in the workforce to effectively utilise the opportunities presented by healthcare data.

This course has been designed to meet the skills gap in the management, handling and utilisation of healthcare data and to develop individuals confident in using healthcare date for innovative and/or commercial applications.

Course delivery: We plan to deliver our postgraduate and MSt qualifications in-person in the academic year 2022-23. Please note that this will be reviewed in line with the latest public health guidance available at the time. If required, to ensure the health and safety of students, we may look to utilise alternative teaching formats and will contact students if we expect changes to the course delivery.

Unit 6: Research Dissertation (60 credits)

The research dissertation is a piece of independent work of between 10,000 – 12,000 words completed during the second year of the course. It consists of two main elements:
•    A literature review of an area of interest and applicability to the student’s professional life.
•    A health data science component where knowledge and expertise derived from learning on the course is demonstrated using a real patient dataset.
Within the dissertation you will engage critically with a field of applied data science relevant to your professional life and demonstrate the practical knowledge you have learnt through the programme. You will be provided with a large, rich and detailed synthetic dataset derived from the Epic electronic patient record system at Cambridge University Hospitals in order to complete the health data science component.
