Institute of Continuing Education (ICE)

This course is designed for Cambridge staff and takes an enquiry-based approach to exploring challenges in teaching and learning in higher education in Cambridge and beyond, as identified by its participants. The course is delivered in collaboration between the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education and the Cambridge Centre for Teaching and Learning and is accredited by Advance HE at Descriptor 2 (Fellow of the Higher Education Academy / FHEA).

Teaching

The course is structured around three units and includes plenary day-long workshops, defined periods of online study through the VLE, individual tutorials and small-group peer learning communities. All participants design a proposal for a research-informed evaluation of practice, which provides an opportunity to integrate learning and practice during the programme. It is expected that participants attend all day-schools, as well as participate fully in online learning through the course VLE and in termly individual tutorials and peer-learning communities. A significant amount of independent study is also required.

Assessment

You will submit three assignments for formative assessment You will receive formative feedback from your tutor and will be supported in developing and acting on collegial formative feedback through your peer-learning community. The course is summatively assessed through a portfolio which you will develop from your formatively assessed drafts.
