Intermediate Greek courses will present light-hearted yet academically rigorous adventures in ancient Greek literature for students wanting to explore the original Greek of major authors like Homer and Herodotus, Sophocles and Thucydides, Euripides and Plato. Some previous knowledge is necessary (e.g. rusty A Level, or degree). This course level is aimed at those who have (or have had) a grasp of the fundamentals of the ancient Greek language and who would like to strengthen their language skills while reading some classic Greek texts in their original form.
The texts for this weekend are: JACT, A World of Heroes (2nd ed.: CUP, 2015) Homer selection, Sections 21-33 (from Iliad book 6) + Iliad book 3.373-447 - text on request, or online via Perseus: http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Hom.+Il.+3.370&fromdoc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0133 (there is a link to Autenrieth’s Homeric dictionary for checking vocabulary).
