This course considers the developments in Russia from the revolutionary year of 1917 to the first decade of the post-Soviet era. It traces the continuities and changes in a country moving from Tsarism to democracy via revolutionary socialism and Stalinist tyranny, focusing on the main events of the Soviet era and assessing what has changed since the collapse of Communism in 1991. (Not to be taken with A34 in ISP Term III.)
