Institute of Continuing Education (ICE)

When it comes to beauty, subjective taste often prevails. And yet, the search for a universal answer to the question: “What is beautiful?” has animated aesthetics since the Antiquity. This course takes a chronological approach to the ways in which philosophers have defined beauty, from Greek and Roman aesthetics (Plato, Aristotle, Longinus), to German aesthetics (Lessing, Kant), empiricist aesthetics (Hume), and philosophies of contemporary art (Danto).
