Institute of Continuing Education (ICE)

Dr Yvonne Battle-Felton will be in conversation with Dr Midge Gillies about her new book, Atlantic Furies in this free Zoom event on Thursday 23 October, 7-8pm, GMT.

Midge will talk about how she came to write the thrilling story of the six women who battled to be the first female to cross the ocean by plane. She’ll explain her new-found respect for Amelia Earhart and for the five other women – three of whom lost their lives trying to cross the Atlantic.

Midge is the author of ten books of non-fiction, including the recently re-issued The Barbed-Wire University about the real lives of Prisoners of War in World War Two, described by The Guardian as “a valuable, fascinating and moving book”. She has taught creative writing at PACE for over twenty years and will be chatting to Academic Director of Creative Writing, Dr Yvonne Battle-Felton, about writing, research and bringing the past to life.
