Institute of Continuing Education (ICE)

Maurice Blik

Maurice Blik is a sculptor who, at the age of 4, was taken from his birthplace in Amsterdam, and with his family was sent to the Nazi concentration camp Bergen-Belsen.

Finally liberated, aged 6, together with the remaining members of his family (his mother and older sister), he came to the UK, where he has lived ever since, and is established as a successful sculptor.

In ICE’s Holocaust Memorial Day event, ICE’s Dr Gilly Carr, who is a member of the UK delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), will be in conversation with Maurice about his memories of the camp, his life as a sculptor, and how his past has influenced his career.
