Cures, Curiosities, Tastes and Essences

As a part of Open Cambridge​, we invite you to come and explore the Madingley Hall Medicinal Border with our Garden Team and Herbalists. This is a drop in event for all the family.

Join us to explore Madingley Hall’s beautiful eight-acre gardens. Discover cures, curiosities, tastes and essences, and learn fascinating facts about herbs and medicinal plants with professional herbalists and the garden team at the Hall’s Medicinal Garden.

  • Meet the Herbalist
  • Garden tours/talks in search of medicinal plants
  • Make your own herbal syrup  
  • Demonstration of how to make Fire Cider
  • Barbecue using herbs from the garden
  • Painting with extracts from dye plants                                                                                                          
  • Come and see the plant the Zulus used to relieve toothache or the plant monks were historically reputed to chew on to maintain their celibacy! The herbalists will offer insight into the plants medicinal properties, including their historical and modern uses, and you will have the opportunity to make a herbal preparation for your own use. The garden team will discuss the plants and how to grow them. 
  • Other plants, many of which have varied historical uses including medicinal, edible and craft uses, can be found throughout the 8 acre garden which is open for visitors to explore

The event is free and no booking is required.

The gardens will be open from 11.00 - 15.00.
