During the 16th century unmarried parents could be prosecuted and punished for 'fornication', but by the 19th century unmarried mothers were framed as 'fallen women' requiring reform. This talk from Dr Samantha Williams discusses attitudes to unmarried mothers and fathers between the 16th and the 19th centuries.
