The term ‘post-truth’ seems to imply that there was a period, before this one, that was truthful. However plausible we find this, many of us are aware of post-truth as a phenomena. Arguably, philosophers have been slow in responding to the perceived dangers of post-truth; despite, or maybe because, the domain of philosophical enquiry is truth itself. In this brief talk, Dr Alex Carter will outline one way of understanding this phenomenon that might also help us to understand why those utilising post-truth and alternative facts for their own ends are wrong to do so.
