Teaching dates 2024-25

Aims 

• Ensure students develop advanced skills and motivation for teaching. 
• Allow students to contribute to continuing development of healthcare professionals by stimulating inter-professional education. 
• Develop students as teachers and prepare them for the high standards of revalidation and appraising of the educational aspect of their work.

There are five themes within the education module: 

• Theme 1: Educational Theory 
• Theme 2: Educational Supervision 
• Theme 3: Evaluation and Quality of Teaching 
• Theme 4: Technology in Education 
• Theme 5: Academic and Teaching Skills

Students studying for CPPD (not for credit) attend the teaching sessions but do not complete the associated assignment. A certificate of attendance is given at the end of the course. 

Entry requirements

Applications are invited from Specialty Registrars or equivalent, GPs, dentists and newly appointed consultants.

Whilst evidence will not be required as part of your application, given the postgraduate level of the course and subject matter, we would recommend that applicants hold a 2.i degree or higher from a UK university or an equivalent from an overseas university.

All applicants are required to demonstrate competency in English at a high level before commencing the programme (IELTS Academic test scores of: overall band score of 7.5, with not less than 7.0 in speaking, listening, writing and reading). The language requirements will be reviewed in light of changes to the General Medical Council’s English language requirements.

International students must ensure they have the appropriate immigration status to undertake the course, and this will need to be checked by the University. Students who do not hold an immigration status that permits study and work in the UK will be based overseas and attendance on modules can be supported as a visitor to the UK. There are restrictions on using the visitor route for study and this may restrict the number of modules that can be undertaken across one year.

Candidates are required to submit a brief summary of 200-250 words outlining how the module will benefit and enhance their clinical role.
