We will explore just what historical fiction is, how it developed, and how to start tracking down ideas for stories from real sources. There'll be chance to experiment with different styles, based on real historical sources, and we'll explore the use of different voices to discover how perspective changes everything. We'll consider the strengths and weaknesses of modern diction, historical diction, and blends of both, and finally, we'll look at how historical fiction overlaps with lots of other genres, from crime to fantasy, and how different approaches affect a story and the nature of research.
