This course will examine Woolf's most autobiographical novel To the Lighthouse (1927), in which she revisits her childhood memories of family holidays spent by the sea. We will consider how she uses her own life to construct a narrative which explores questions of family, art, interior consciousness and the passage of time.

You will need to satisfy yourself that you have an appropriate level of English language proficiency.

All courses will be delivered via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that allows you to study and learn online, access learning resources, and interact with your tutor and fellow students.

You will need to have access to:

- the internet via a computer or smart device

- a webcam and microphone for any interactive sessions which may be available

- speakers or headphones in order to hear pre-recorded material provided by the Course Director

Reading requirement

The only required reading is To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. The recommended edition is the Oxford World’s Classics edition (Oxford University Press, 2006) with an Introduction by David Bradshaw.
